MATUNDA'S 7 STEPS

Opening of Special Units

We request that public schools dedicate a classroom to students with special needs who cannot attend school under inclusive conditions. We request that the government assign a special education teacher and hire a sufficient number of classroom assistants.

Uniform and lunch

The price of the uniform (approximately €10) is another obstacle preventing these families from sending their children to school. The cost of school lunches is also a deterrent.

Student rescue

Many children and young people with physical and intellectual disabilities live near the school, but have never attended. Some have never even left their homes in their entire lives because it is considered something shameful that the family must hide.

Medication

Many of these children need it to improve their quality of life and prevent the progressive decline of their cognitive functions. They suffer primarily from epilepsy and digestive diseases, which are especially prevalent in the cerebral palsy population.

Transport

Despite wanting to go to school, many children are unable to walk and lack the means to pay for transportation. This initiative includes a school bus, driver, and assistant during journeys, to address any difficulties that may arise.

Personalized therapies

The quality of life of our children improves exponentially when they have access to specific therapies: Physiotherapy sessions, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy… these are aspects that make a big difference.

Adaptation of spaces

Construction of ramps, improved access and paving, and adaptation of bathrooms (in Kenya, latrines are the norm, making toilet training for people with mobility difficulties nearly impossible). Ultimately, the construction of large "Special Units" that meet the requirements for adequate space distribution.
